Charlotte Gray at Earnscliffe

Ottawa Public Library, Charlotte Gray and Earnscliffe prove to be a winning combination. Charlotte Gray captivated a full house with her talk about the art of writing biographies. The evening was a fundraiser for the OPL; specifically, the Ottawa Room in the main branch. It houses a great collection of historical records about Ottawa; a gem in our library system.
Charlotte spoke in the dining room, which was set up with chairs for the crowd that filled the room and spread out into the hallway. It was a great location; at one point, she informed everyone that the little balcony in the hallway was built by Sir John A (the greatest Canadian!) for his daughter so she could enjoy the goings-on in the dining room while sitting upstairs in her wheelchair.
David Dollin from Nicholas Hoare was - natch - the bookseller and Charlotte was kept busy signing copies for all her fans. I had a great time perusing the books in the library, finding quite a few gems, among them a lot of Cary books (yes, related to the British High Commissioner Anthony Clary).
